истПолучил широкое распространение в XIX в., особенно в Новой Англии [ New England]. Конструкция прошла длинный путь развития с постепенным совершенствованием от патента к патенту. Считается наиболее "американским" из мостов, построенных в США, поскольку каждый мост строился не по индивидуальному проекту, а методом типовой сборки на берегу. Особенно распространенной была конструкция из деревянных ферм инженера И. Тауна [ Town, Ithiel], который имел на нее патент. Его мост, по выражению самого Тауна, "строился милями и нарезался секциями по ярду", а автору выплачивался 1 доллар за каждый фут. Мост можно было строить любой длины - конструкция деревянных ферм превращала его в подобие единой балки, а крыша предохраняла от непогоды. На Восточном побережье были построены многие сотни таких мостов разной длины. Наиболее известный из них - Корниш-Виндзорский мост [Cornish-Windsor Bridge] через р.
